History

History of the Madrid Court of Arbitration

The Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Madrid (the “Chamber of Commerce of Madrid”) is a public law corporation with more than 130 years of history that aims to facilitate the development of companies. As part of its activity, theChamber of Commerce is very active in promoting agile and efficient dispute resolution methods for business entities.

In 1989, the Madrid Chamber of Commerce created the Court of Arbitration of Madrid as its own department for the administration of arbitration proceedings. To ensure its autonomy and independence, the Chamber endowed the Court with a specific Statute, periodically updated (the most recent modification is from 2018). The Statute establishes the operating framework of the Court, and provides it with its own bodies for the development of its activity and the necessary means for the proper exercise of its functions.

The Court of Arbitration of Madrid is additionally regulated by its internal laws, approved by the Plenary of the Court, which establish theRules of the Appointment Commission Appointment for Arbitrators, the Rules of the Challenging Commission for Arbitrators and other matters.

In its more than 30 years of existence, the Court of Arbitration of Madrid has acquired extensive experience in the administration of national and international commercial arbitrations.
